the latest in the “Mythic Octopus” series……

In a recent edition of the SFJAZZ Hotplate series…Secret Sidewalk’s own space sax hero Marcus Stephens paid tribute to legend Joe Henderson, in a show that featured reworked classics of Mr. Henderson, as well as original compositions inspired by his works.

Marcus brought a talented group of musicians with him to achieve this great feat, one of them being another Secret Sidewalk goon, the mad genius Alex (Puzzle) Abalos on MPC and Modular Synth.

This was a great night. the entire band was there in support and we had a blast. Needless to say, Marcus killed it as he always does.

SFJAZZ Hotplate is a monthly series that features local artists re-imagining the music of jazz legends. All shows are at the club Amnesia, in the Mission. Cover is just $5 at the door! More info at http://www.sfjazzhotplate.org

Always a part of the underground beat tape trading circuit, the first Secret Sidecast is a nice collection of material from solo projects of the band, as well as songs from good friends, and contemporaries of ours, who we feel are pushing boundaries and need to be heard……

“Searching For The Mythic Octopus”

A new music video for the bonus track from our mysterious “Self Titled” EP. The visuals are taken from a collaborative audio/visual project by Puzzle Abalos,Yasushi “Noa” Matsui, and Matt “MattOner” Alhona. Noa is on transparent paper art, and Matt is on oils and liquids.

Meet Puzzle Abalos, a.k.a Bakunawa. He is the mad scientist of the crew. He likes to spend time in his dark caves constructing Modular synthesizer robots that will one day save the world from alien attacks. He think’s his music is “floor clearing”. Bandmate Asonic would rather call it “Avant Garde Synthesis”. Check out his prolific works here: http://lunarglutton.tumblr.com

The show last night was amazing. Playing for our drummer Mike’s family and close friends as well as true heads down with the band in an intimate setting was perfect. Big thanks to Megan Reed, who has a successful showing of her beautiful art, William Wardlaw, Asonic’s roomie/dope DJ for providing the sound system and grooves after our set, and Zughaus Gallery for hosting it all.
